Antique Art Deco Clocks
THE ART DECO STYLE
The French were the ones who had conceived the style we call Art Deco. It was a reaction to the stuffy Victorian styles and the start of the Machine Age. New York’s Chrysler building is a landmark example of this style a style that also influenced architecture, furniture, sculpture, clothing, jewelry and graphic design. Art Deco Clocks also benefitted from this design style as did buildings and furniture of the period.
The style was the first modern style in vintage clock making. One could also add the Art Nouveau period that preceded it as modern, while it was really a reinvention of the Romantic era with smoother Rococo features, that were part of it’s design style.
